NGOs IN DELHI
Delhi, the capital of India, is the political and cultural hub of the country and a city with a huge number of NGOs working hard to uplift communities. NGOs are working on addressing issues of poverty and child welfare. Women's safety, healthcare, education, the environment, skill development, etc. They are working on social change. They are a bridge to inequality, and they are trying to ensure support reaches the people in need. Below is a selection of some of the most impactful NGOs in Delhi that are working on the ground zero.
Womanity
Womanity was born of a simple observation: when women are empowered, entire communities change. Started in 2015 by Harshit, the organization started with the desire to help achieve gender equality through education and advocacy. Womanity has grown from weekend literacy classes with 20 women to a complete empowerment program, reaching over 25,000 women across multiple states in India. The approach is holistic. Womanity does not believe in empowerment as a separate issue, but rather that women face a myriad of interconnected challenges. Typically, this includes menstrual health awareness, digital literacy, self-defense, and entrepreneurship support. Womanity believes there are always root causes to gender equality issues. Their programs are designed by women, for women, with cultural sensitivity and input from their community.
NEDAR Foundation
NEDAR Foundation is a not-for-profit organization incorporated as a Section 8 Company on 8th October 2021. It is India's first Virtual Business Incubator to promote and support Entrepreneurs with Disabilities pan India, providing customized online/ offline solutions for their business needs through its services - Entrepreneurship Development Training Program, Mentorship, Linkages to Market & Finance, and connect to NEDAR Entrepreneurs Business Network to Start, Sustain & Scale their enterprises. Since its inception, it has created awareness on “Entrepreneurship” as an alternate livelihood opportunity for 981 Persons with Disabilities to more than 4500 people and imparted basic business knowledge, mentoring, and other support services to more than Persons with Disabilities who are entrepreneurs or wish to start their own enterprises. The intense immersive sessions through Virtual Incubator services with their practical experiences have motivated more than thirty percent of candidates to start a new business soon after training and about seventy percent have enhanced their incomes by applying their learned knowledge.
Viklang Sahara Seva Samiti
Viklang Sahara Samiti Delhi (VSSD) is a non-government organization working towards the Welfare and Education of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) coming from economically and Socially Deprived backgrounds since 1994. VSSD had observed while working at the grassroots level that most of the Persons with Disabilities in the society are not able to utilize the basic facilities offered by the Central /State government. Therefore, VSSD was established under the Society Act and became a Social Organization in December 1994, as a non-profit organization to support and fulfill the needs of people with disabilities in society. This support is in terms of Basic Education, Skill Training, Vocational Training and Placement, etc.
Sankalp Shakti Social Foundation
Sankalp Shakti Social Foundation has come a long way as a method of helping marginalized communities to release the potential inherent in young people. This has been catalyzed with the founding of a simple community kitchen in Mumbai in 2015 that prepared 200 meals a day for those in need, to a movement in India that serves over 500,000 beneficiaries per year. Sankalp Shakti, therefore, harmonizes with the Foundation's vision's lofty ambitions of a self-sufficient India and its goal of transforming the cycles of poverty that entrap so many people in cycles of poverty. With a strong emphasis on "community first”, Sankalp Shakti achieves its goals through education, sustainable ecosystem-based agriculture and health and well-being. It has been quite remarkable to scale to this degree in providing meaningful collective impact initiatives, all being locally driven and skillfully co-designed and co-partnered, and imparting positive ripples into marginalized communities across our nation together.
We Are One (WAO) Trust
We Are One (WAO) Trust, founded in 2016 by a group of differently-abled artists, is dedicated to redefining how society perceives disability—celebrating the reality that “differently-abled” does not mean less. Through inclusive dance initiatives—including the Magic on Wheels Performances, the WAO Dance Academy, and community outreach programs, the trust unites differently-abled and able-bodied individuals to perform, learn, and inspire together. Their mission is to drive social inclusion and transform perceptions through creativity, collaboration, and performance.
Mission A Sewa
Mission A Sewa is an NGO from Delhi, India, that works for eradicating poverty and the betterment of underprivileged communities while maintaining the quality of life through education, health care and skilling. It pursues its aim to empower women and children, protect human rights and the environment, and build cultural and moral values by engaging volunteers and members.
Sambhavna Natya Manch
Sambhavna Natya Manch (SNM) is an all-India level professional Theatre and street-play group. SNM is a movement for bringing in social change in various fields, including disaster management, conflict resolution, health, drinking water, environment and sanitation, education, HIV & AIDS, child protection, and other social issues affecting the community. Sambhawna Art and culture began in 1992 with 15 young people from a theatre background, having commitment and concern to bring social change through role plays. Since 2001, Sambhawna Natya Manch has continued to work with renowned NGOs, Government agencies/departments, corporate firms, etc.
Dev Animal Voluntary Organization/ DAVO
Dev Animal Voluntary Organization, or DAVO, is an Old Age Home for the abandoned elderly of our country. The organization is registered under the Society Registration Act 1860 and the Foreign Contributions (Regulation) Act, 1976.
For the last 35 years, they have been providing free shelter, food, clothing, medical care facilities, love and affection to the destitute and abandoned elderly. All these facilities are provided to the elderly completely free of cost throughout the year. Most of these elderly people are picked up from the streets of Delhi NCR or brought in by the Police/hospital authorities. Their vision is to save every helpless, hopeless, sick person who is in harsh and painful conditions due to a lack of help and support.
Deepalaya
Deepalaya is a not-for-profit organisation working towards the upliftment of children in the domains of education, vocational training, health and livelihood since 1979. Over the years, their focus has expanded to incorporate areas like education for children, helping underprivileged women, youth, and children become self-reliant through education and vocational training. Deepalaya has reached out to more than 3,86,556 children, given vocational training to 26,813 adults, and helped form more than 1,616 self-help groups with 17,892 women who have established more than 8,431 micro-enterprises.
Muskaan Shiksha Sansthan
Muskaan Shiksha Sansthan is a Non-Profit making Organization engaged in the field of Social Development. It was founded in 2022 and Formally Registered on 4th April 2022, under the Indian Trusts Registration Act, 1882. The Organization is formed with a wider concept of the Historic and Realistic Development Approach. Their main focus is to empower marginalized, unprivileged, downtrodden, neglected and alienated communities by building up their own capacity and resources through education and skill development.
QFK Reformer
QFK Reformer is a passionate non-governmental organization that believes in transforming lives and empowering the future. They help positively change people's lives for the better through acts of mercy and goodwill, as well as a heart of service. Their mission is to prime the sustainable growth of human lives through dedicated effort and feelings of service towards humanity in life-changing areas of development, namely, Education, Health Awareness, Women Empowerment, National Integration, Livelihood, Environment and Disaster Relief.
Arushi Sewa Sansthan
Arushi Sewa Sansthan is a non-profit organization based in Delhi, founded on 4 July 2022, and registered under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Arushi Sewa Sansthan seeks to fulfill a mission of programs aimed at uplifting marginalized tribes and communities through social welfare. The organization works for the safety and welfare of senior citizens, underprivileged women and children, and the residents of old age homes across the country. The organization undertakes activities for social causes in education, health, nutrition, skill development for employment and women's empowerment through self-help groups. Arushi Sewa Sansthan strives based on compassion and inclusiveness with positive promises, every day working towards achieving emotional and physical security and a self-reliant lifestyle with the beneficiaries and supported communities.
Maa Shakti
Maa Shakti is a non-governmental organization based in Laxmi Nagar, Delhi, that was founded in 2013. It works on many social causes, including women and girl child empowerment, welfare for the elderly and differently abled (Divyang), education, health, skill development, and environmental conservation. It has a vision to make society cleaner, literate, and healthier. Additionally, the organization also helps like free supportive equipment and registration services for the elderly/aged and differently abled.
Muskan Foundation
Muskan Foundation is a registered non-governmental organization that was established in 2003. It's based in Dwarka, New Delhi. The foundation aims to create a humane and healthy drug-free society. The foundation has a committed team of medical and paramedical professionals (who comprise recovered addicts) that bases its work on drug de-addiction and rehabilitation, HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention, and caregiving support to people affected by HIV/AIDS.
Chahal Welfare Society
Chahal Welfare Society is a non-governmental organization based in Delhi, India and registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 on December 7, 2007. The Society promotes self-directed community action by allowing children to have a voice and choice in leisure. The Society is focused on providing socio-economic interventions to improve the living standards of underprivileged communities in Delhi, such as women and children. MLA runs education programs (online and offline), vocational education (computer courses, tailoring, beauty & wellness), crèche/daycare, health, women empowerment, legal aid and community development more broadly. Society strives for sustainable change and engages through awareness in health and sanitation, environmental care, senior citizen welfare, and legal and social justice for marginalized communities/incremental groups. MLA relies on local fundraising and partnerships to further its mission to foster sustainability, harmony, and improved well-being for individuals and groups within its communities.
Jan Sharnam
Jan Sharnam is a non-profit organization based in Delhi, which was formed in 2015, committed to supporting underprivileged communities with distinct programs in education, health, women's empowerment and the environment. Jan Sharnam has aimed to provide free education each year to ~1000 children and vocational training to ~500 women, also organizing quarterly health camps every year where they help ~5,000 people, distribute ~10,000 trees and create waste-management awareness. Jan Sharnam has a broad history in community engagement, having organized Children's Day celebrations, Diwali Lamp Exhibitors, Children's events in "Disha - Ek Asha", and health camps with Felix Hospital and yoga sessions with children, etc. Jan Sharnam NGO has obtained several awards over the years for its many contributions to women's empowerment and child education.
Routes to Roots
Routes to Roots is a non-profit NGO based in Delhi, more widely known as Routes 2 Roots (R2R). Founded in 2004, its mission is to further peace and understanding through cultural exchange programs and arts education. To overcome socio-cultural distances, R2R organizes a variety of festivals, cultural exchange programs, including Exchange for Change and a digital learning platform aimed at promoting performing arts. R2R aims to disseminate art & heritage information among children and schools, promote tolerance, and contribute towards an inclusive society.
ETASHA Society
ETASHA Society is an NGO founded in 2006 by Dr. Meenakshi Nayar, with a mission of empowering youth, adolescents, women, and marginalized communities through job-linked skill development, mindset transformation and community livelihood. While the organization started off with only underprivileged young people of society, it has gradually expanded its reach to serve women as well as broader community members through counseling, vocational training, adult literacy, digital and financial literacy, and entrepreneurial guidance and support to individuals. ETASHA takes a participative and experiential approach to working with individuals on employability, economic independence and dignity, which leads to social truths and connectedness that break the cycle of poverty.
Nice Computer And Educational Welfare Trust
Nice Computer and Educational Welfare Trust was established in 2006. It is a progressive English/Hindi medium, co-educational institute based on indian thought, culture and tradition. The institute aims to impart integrated and comprehensive technical education, which is formative and not merely informative. It emphasizes the holistic development of the student's character and personality, which should normally lead him/her into self-fulfillment and dedicated service to society.
Udayan Care
Udayan Care—named after the Sanskrit word for “Eternal Sunrise”—is a Delhi-based public charitable trust, founded in 1994 to bring “sunshine” to underserved communities across India. Over the past three decades, it has empowered vulnerable children, women, and youth across 40 cities in 16 states, nurturing over 50,000 young minds through its holistic programs. The organization’s work spans child-care homes (Udayan Ghars), girls’ education fellowships, IT and skills training, and advocacy through research and training, all rooted in the belief that every child has the right to a loving family environment and self-reliance.
UDAI
UDAI Working Together Works is a registered Charitable Trust under the Indian Trust Act 1882. It is a special school, an Intervention center, a residential setup & vocational unit for children and adults with special needs. They have been serving children and young adults with special needs in Janakpuri, West Delhi, since 2009, with the focus on the holistic development of the child’s social, emotional, mental and cognitive growth.
They follow a child-centred approach and a specially designed curriculum delivered by qualified professionals & therapists. They believe that they can improve daily living through special education, intense therapies and vocational training.
STRAW India
STRAW India has dedicated itself to building this awareness among students, particularly school children. STRAW's motto is Animal Welfare through Education. It is one of the few organizations in the country that sow seeds of compassion for all living beings among school children. It is done through humane education programs called Compassionate Classroom for schools, Compassionate Campus for colleges, Compassionate Neighborhoods for RWA and colony residents. It is associated with many schools, such as the British School, Pathways School, Army Public School, etc., to name a few. They are also associated with colleges like the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-D), St. Stephen's College, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi Technological University (DTU), Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Motilal Nehru College, Azim Premji College, Bangalore, etc.
Maa Astha Samajik Vikas Sewa Sanstha
Maa Astha Samajik Vikas Sewa Sanstha is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). They are a 19-year-old organization. They are a registered Society registered under the Society Registration Act XXI of 1860, registered with the Registrar of Societies, Govt. of NCT of Delhi. Friendicoes
Friendicoes SECA began in the mid-1970s as a small "Kindness Club" run by schoolchildren under the Defence Colony flyover in New Delhi. It was formally registered as a nonprofit in April 1979. Since then, it has grown into a major animal welfare organization serving Delhi NCR and surrounding states through animal hospitals, clinics, shelters, mobile equine clinics, and a Lifetime Care Sanctuary. Friendicoes rescues, treats, rehabilitates, and shelters animals—both large and small rescuing more than 40,000 animals each year
