News | New Delhi, Friday , 09 July 2021
Summary: Commemorating the World Environment Day observed annually on 5th June, India Is Us (i2u Social Foundation) and FairGaze jointly organized a campaign #OneDayForEnvironment to help spread awareness about environment conservation and sustainable practices like recycling and upcycling among the school community, non-profits, and various stakeholders.
New Delhi, Friday, 9th July 2021: The world around us is changing fast. Repercussions of climate change are slowly being felt all over the earth. Since the late 19th century, the average surface temperature of earth has risen by 1.18 degrees Celsius. There’s an ever increasing need to save the environment from collapsing, like loss of ecosystems, flora, and fauna due to human interference and pollution adding activities. Extinction of species is another pressing issue.
With these thoughts in mind, India Is Us (i2u Social Foundation) and FairGaze organized a month long campaign- #OneDayForEnvironment. The month-long campaign kicked off on the occasion of World Environment Day that is 5th June 2021 and continued till 5th July 2021. Various NGOs dedicated to the cause of environmental conservation, school going children, their parents, teachers, school management, and other stakeholders participated in the campaign that gave three main ideas- to #GoGreen by following principles of #GrowGreen, #Recycling, and #Upcycling.
Children participated by sharing pictures of the best created from waste and saplings they planted in or around their homes. They also shared glimpses of sustainable practices followed at home to spread awareness about recycling and upcycling. The event was supported by campaign partners The Sports Grail, Tree Craze, AIESEC, Dakshin Sahodaya School Complex, World Parliament, Green Hearts Dignity, SPAA India, and Crystal Hues Limited.
#The OneDayForEnvironment campaign concluded on 5th July 2021 with a LIVE webinar attended by dignitaries including Nitya Jacob (Advisor to i2u Social Foundation on Matters of Water and Sanitation), Durgesh Gupta (Legal Environmental Activist and Founder of Green Yatra), Major Harsh Kumar (Advisor FairGaze, Secretary NCERT), Mr. Binumon VR (PrincipalAdarsh Vidya Kendra, Tamil Nadu & Vice President- Dakshin Sahodaya Schools Complex), and Mr. Mathew Verghese (PrincipalMD Minda Memorial School, Hisar Secretary- Hisar Sahodaya Schools).
