About the NGO

Kankura Masat Social Welfare Society (KMSWS) is located at a village called Kankura Masat in the South 24 Parganas District of West Bengal and was established in 1999. It has been working to address the alarming conditions of education, environment, and health through various developed well-planned models in the in South 24 Parganas district. Since 2001, the organisation is engaged in running pre-primary and primary schools for local children. Regular health check up clinics for mothers and their children are being organised. Vocational training for youth and women is also another important areas of intervention for the organisation.

As part of our livelihood improvement program, we have taken initiatives to organize vocational training for local unemployed youth. In the environment and sustainable agricultural front, our activities include raising awareness about the usefulness of organic farming among local farmers. As far as the senior citizens are concerned, we regularly arrange medical camps, cultural programs to take care of their needs

The Aspired society that the KMSWS dreams of is an Equitable one irrespective of caste, creed and Gender. In such a society the people will have a value based life. Promoting their economic-political-cultural interest. Keeping intact the environment having odyssey to the next century.

Mission:

KMSWS is non-political social services oriented organisation pledges to make relentless drive addressing the issues like poverty, re-establishment and restoration of human values and empowering the people through organisation them and making them socio-politically aware and economically self sustained so that the people could come forward to take proper decision for their own development process.

Objectives:

Following are the prime objectives of KMSWS:

• To aware the people towards their rights, duties and their own capabilities.
• To organise them for join effort for their development.
• To raise the socio economic and cultural status of the people though proper status of the people through proper utilisation of the people' s knowledge experience and skills through promotion of collective effort for their development, through maximum people participation and utilisation of available4 resources.
• To find out development elements lying with within the society through research work.
• To aware the people towards deterioration and degradation of forest and environmental imbalance and its effect in the way and life.
• To enhance the modern knowledge of the people through dissemination and passing on the latest and modern information to the people through their mother tongue.
• To empower the women through their involvement in awareness, education, health and income generation activities.
• To raise the health status of the people of the Island area through awareness health, education and through organising free health camps in the area.

In the field of education- we run a pre-primary and primary school for under-privileged children ,who come from neighboring 10 villages covering 2 GPs and 3 blocks. Now almost 268 children come for education. Therefore we run a remedy centre for teenage group who complete their primary education from our centre, where almost 210 youth come and take coaching education from our centre.

In youth development prog. our society give computer education to unprivileged youth of our community. Besides we support meritious students by monetary and by giving education material. And also we give career counselling and motivation prog. to this youth.

In the field of sustainable agriculture our organisation form and promote farmers to use bio-fertiliser instead of chemical fertiliser. We have a small organic firm on the roof of our organisation. Also we organised seminar for farmers on this issues.

In the field of mother & child health prog. we organised immunization camps and health check up camps regularly in our area. Health awareness camps also held every year. Currently we run a generic medicine shop with very fair price shop called PMBJK, a project implemented by BPPI.

Sinior citizen prog- Our unique prog. with aged people are RAKHI BANDHAN and Dol UTSAV. Here we give blankets, umbrella, walking sticks to the lone full, frustrated Senior citizen. Besides we give health cards to get health services and health check up camp also organised for them.

In the field of cultural promotion we arrange cultural programmes in different area of our block and also in our organisation.
